“Raymarine has done an incredible job with the Axiom Pro. They've made it very intuitive. It’s not just for navigation; it’s for logging and planning trips.” – Captain C.A. Richardson

Practice Makes a Pro

Though he was born in Charleston, South Carolina, it was after C.A. Richardson moved to St. Petersburg, FL as a boy where he honed his angling skills on the beaches, piers and inshore flats of Tampa Bay. There, he grew up casting artificial lures and bucktail jigs to trout, snook, tarpon and redfish — unwittingly preparing himself to become a professional angler.

Getting Genuine with Artificial Baits

C.A. rapidly moved from regional to national tournament fishing and made a name for himself competing in venues from North Carolina to Texas. Along the way, he gained more and more knowledge about localized techniques with light tackle. These experiences would shape his Tampa Bay guide business which specializes in catching inshore species on artificial baits. One trick he shares with his clientele? Captain Richardson uses his Axiom Pro as a working logbook on the water, “I've got more than one plan. I've got a B plan all the way to a Z plan once I get enough waypoints in my machine.”

Go Deep on Shallow Water Fishing

While guiding, C.A. recognized how he could better help novice and intermediate level anglers learn the finer points of inshore fishing using artificial lures and fly. He created the Flats Class, a popular traveling fishing school. An instant success, these classes served as the launching pad for Flats Class TV.  Widely considered the industry’s best technical fishing show, Flats Class TV inspires many to take up shallow water fishing. The secret? C.A. combines bass fishing techniques and strategies to catch popular saltwater species, a fishing accomplishment not seen since the legendary Flip Pallot (of ESPN’s “Walkers Cay Chronicles” fame) back in the late 90’s. But C.A. doesn’t do it alone. He says of his Raymarine equipment, “The Axiom Pro is a great tool when you’re on the water when you start to get stumped on what to do next. Once you start putting your waypoints in, they become very valuable.”
