Find out moreExploring the Arctic mountains and seas
Enni Rukajärvi and Rami Hanalfi are the epitome of an adventure couple: a World Champion snowboarder and an outdoor film director - heading to the Arctic circle to discover the mountains and seas that most of us only read about in legends.
With Enni's ability to take on the most extreme mountain slopes, and Rami's ability to capture it on film; the experiences and output of their latest adventure will be indisputably epic...
"Sailing is quite a new thing for me. It's been nice to notice it's possible to find something as fascinating in life as snowboarding" says Enni Rukajärvi, who loves being in the nature on her snowboard.
Rukajärvi found her passion in life at the age of 10. From there, she has come a long way - to touring the world for 15 years competing on the highest level in women’s snowboarding, consistently finishing on the podium. She has earned two Olympic medals, a World Champion title, and multiple X-games medals, to name just a few.
Rukajärvi is from Northern Finland, from a small town called Rukajärvi. Having grown up on her family farm, she has always been living in harmony with the nature. Today, Rukajärvi uses her publicity to make a change for better. She has been an ambassador for Protect Our Winters for a decade, and has given speeches in events like Suomi Areena, the largest social festival in Finland.
Rami Hanafi, a sailor since the age of nine, is a photographer and director, with his professional roots in documentary photography. He still believes that a single image can change the world - piece by piece.
Having studied and worked for several years as a photojournalist, Rami was drawn into the world of advertising where he soon found himself shooting variety of projects; from global campaigns to brand imagery and film, for top class brands such as Microsoft, John Deere and Finnair.
Together Enni and Rami are about to set off for a voyage to the Arctic. Their plan is to explore the harsh but picturesque coastline of Norway, with it's rugged mountains rising straight from the sea.
This is a dream project of theirs, where sailing and big mountain snowboarding will come together; both sports requiring an in-depth understanding of nature's whims and patience. Instead of needing to fly to other countries in the pursue of perfect snow conditions, they will move ahead by sail, and reach the mountain peaks on foot.
The 2025 to 2027 voyage to the Arctic region will be captured in a documentary film series, and many more mediums. They will concentrate not only on their own story, but also the story of interesting personalities they meet on the way.
Yasmila is a 38ft Van De Stadt sailboat, hand-crafted by a former seaman Jukka Salokaarto. For over six years Jukka put his time and thought into building a seaworthy vessel. Yasmila served Jukka's family for 13 years, before it was time to pass it on. Enni and Rami where fortunate to find her. Now, Yasmila will see new adventures with her new crew. And thanks to Raymarine, she will be elevated to 2.0, with all new marine electronics. With darkness and freezing temperatures waiting ahead, the reliability in the navigation instruments is crucial.
