Raymarine Introduces Pathfinder V2.0

Software Upgrade for IMO Radar System Announced at SMM Hamburg

Tuesday - 03 September 2024

Raymarine – global leader in high-performance marine electronics – recently announced its first software upgrade for the groundbreaking commercial Pathfinder radar system – Pathfinder V2.0. This software upgrade introduces additional features that enhance compatibility with third-party systems and increases usability for end customers.

Now outputting ASTERIX CAT-240 video, Pathfinder seamlessly integrates with third-party systems, including ECDIS systems such as ChartWorld’s eGlobe G2, bespoke radar trackers, and complex systems such as combat and VTS systems. Pathfinder V2.0 also includes an open REST API to control the radar from a third-party source. With the update, Pathfinder radar systems can integrate with ChartWorld’s MyFleet cloud-based real-time fleet management system. MyFleet provides regular position reporting for all connected vessels in a fleet and automatic transmission of radar diagnostic data.

To improve the user experience, additional features include the display of routes from ECDIS systems. A new Classic View mode contains the radar targets within the boundary of the PPI display for navigators that prefer a more traditional radar image rendering. In addition, AIS target display capacity has been increased and Pathfinder now shows up to 4,000 active targets, up from 180. The software update also adds wind and depth graphical data widgets when connected to compatible sensors. Finally, to simplify installation, the software contains pre-configured device settings for the Data Control Unit (DCU), reducing required configuration.

“The inclusion of ASTERIX CAT-240 video output in a commercial radar system puts Pathfinder in a unique place within the market,” said Andy Murray, Director of Navigation Solutions, Raymarine. “Providing maximum compatibility with third-party systems, without the need for additional complex and costly third-party conversions, users can take their data and display it in compatible third-party software packages as required. These upgrades demonstrate Raymarine’s ability to adapt to feature requests while ensuring simplicity of operation, ultimately keeping the navigator at the heart of the Pathfinder user experience.”
