At Raymarine we pride ourselves on not just providing cutting-edge technology but also on having a team that understands the unique needs and challenges of professional mariners. In the intricate world of navigation solutions, where technological advancements intersect with stringent regulations, having a seasoned expert who can navigate the complexities is invaluable. Meet Andy Murray, the driving force behind Raymarine's commercial business line, bridging the gap between Raymarine and ChartWorld, and ensuring that our product roadmap aligns with upcoming changes in regulation and technology.
With over 15 years of experience in the workboat, fishing, and large commercial industry, Andy brings a wealth of practical knowledge and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by professional mariners. His journey into the realm of marine electronics began in 2011 when he joined Kelvin Hughes, where he honed his skills in large vessel operations and navigation.
Andy's extensive experience includes working on special projects and leading installation and maintenance teams for commercial and naval markets. His time spent at sea onboard the RMS Queen Mary 2 provided invaluable insights into the challenges faced by navigators on large vessels navigating through diverse environments, from the Canadian waters to the Singapore straits.
Growing up in a fishing family in Cornwall, Andy's passion for the sea runs deep. His sister's role as a navigation and warfare officer in the Royal Navy and his own studies in navigation during his teens further fueled his interest in maritime operations.
As the point of contact for all technical issues with bridge equipment, including Radar and ECDIS, onboard the RMS Queen Mary 2, Andy gained firsthand experience in handling navigation challenges and integrating systems to enhance vessel safety and efficiency. His proactive approach to addressing technical issues and collaborating with navigators earned him the trust and respect of industry professionals.
Andy's commitment to innovation was evident in his oversight of the design, installation, and introduction of an integrated navigation system for the New Zealand Navy, featuring fully solid-state radars. This experience provided valuable insights into military vessel operations and the importance of robust systems in demanding environments.
Throughout his career, Andy has actively engaged with industry bodies such as the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) working groups and the Comité International Radio-Maritime (CIRM) to shape industry standards and advocate for the needs of equipment manufacturers.
Andy's dedication to excellence and his relentless pursuit of innovation make him a trusted authority in the field of marine electronics. His ability to bridge the gap between regulation and technology will ensure that Raymarine can be at the forefront of the industry, providing solutions that meet the evolving needs of professional mariners.
